Department of Bodo

The Department of Bodo proudly celebrates the 60th Foundation Day of Tezpur College as the grand closing ceremony of the Diamond Jubilee Year. The department was established in 2013 with a single faculty member. Ms. Raisumai Khakhlari served as the founding teacher, and the department was initiated under the leadership of the then Principal, Dr. Charu Saharia Nath. Since its inception, the department has been dedicated to imparting education in Bodo Literature, Language, and Culture, with a special focus on the preservation and promotion of the rich heritage of the Bodo community.

The department is equipped with an additional library housing 200 reference books, along with a separate computer system and an Aqua Guard water filter, ensuring convenient access for both students and the faculty. At present, the department offers the MIL (Bodo) course at the Higher Secondary level and the AEC (Bodo) course at the Degree level. A proposal for the Minor course in Bodo at the Degree level has already been submitted and is expected to commence from the upcoming academic session. The department also plans to introduce a Major course in Bodo, and preliminary discussions have already been held with the respected Principal. At present, the department is being managed and run by a single faculty member, Dr. Lakhiram Narzary, who continues to serve with dedication and commitment towards the growth of the department.

The students of the department are dedicated and enthusiastic, and they actively participate in every event organized by both the department and the college. They are kind, respectful, and obedient, maintaining a strong sense of regard for their teachers. The students learn their courses sincerely and perform well in the subjects taught by the faculty members. The Department organizes the Departmental Freshers’ Day and Chatra Divas annually, where the students take part with great zeal. They also enthusiastically participate in the Annual College Week, especially in the cultural rally, where they proudly showcase the rich culture and traditions of the Bodo community.
