The Shankara Cancer and Research Institute of Tezpur celebrated its first anniversary on 2nd of April, 2025 at Tezpur College. On this occasion, the Institute under the aegis of Viswapragna Foundation, donated 20 computers to the Computer Laboratory of Tezpur College. This will help the college in enhancing opportunities for its students, particularly in the field of technology and digital learning. On this occasion, a speech competition on the topic “The Role of Lifestyle Choices in Cancer Prevention” was organized by the Shankara Cancer and Research Institute among the students of Tezpur College. The event was marked by the presence of many dignitaries, and faculties from both the institutions. A total number of 11 students participated in the competition. First prize was secured by Rajib Barma, second prize was secured by Ankita Kalita, and third prize was secured by Azharul Haque.
Dr. Debajit Kalita, Chief Operating Officer of the Shankara Cancer and Research Institute hosted the program and also highlighted the importance of cancer awareness among students and community. Inaugural Speech was delivered by renowned oncologist Dr. Venkata Pradeep Babu, shedding light on cancer prevention and awareness. Chief Guest of Honour Dr. Dwipen Mahanta, President, IMA, Tezpur Branch spoke about the importance of cancer awareness and urged the students to become the torch bearers in the society for cancer prevention. He also emphasized upon the lifestyle habits that are crucial for cancer prevention. Another guest of honour, Dr. Sumita Gogoi, renowned gynecologist and Director of Dorika Hospital, talked about the successful collaboration with Shankara Cancer and Research Foundation, inspired the audience by sharing valuable perspectives, and emphasized the need for personal, emotional support systems for patients after the diagnosis of cancer. Dr. Manoj Kumar Hazarika, Principal of Tezpur College also addressed the gathering and acknowledged the significance of the event and its impact on students, expressed his gratitude and desire for further collaboration. The combination of academic, philanthropic, and awareness-building activities marked the celebration as a remarkable event, creating a valuable impact on the participants and attendees. The initiative reflected the Sankara Cancer and Research Institute’s dedication to community welfare and education. The event was a resounding success and highlighted the institute's commitment to promoting health and knowledge in society. The event was also marked by the inauguration of the Computer Laboratory and signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Viswapragna Foundation and Tezpur College.
