60th Foundation Day Celebrated on 5th August

The 60th Foundation Day of the prestigious Tezpur College in Sonitpur was celebrated on August 5, 2025, with vibrant programs. The event began with the flag hoisting by the college principal, Dr. Manoj Kumar Hazarika. Distinguished guests included Tezpur MLA Prithiraj Rabha, President of Tezpur College Governing Body Dr. Swadhinata Mahanta, President of Kaliabor College Governing Body Dr. Shivaranjan Mahanta, and former principal of Tezpur College Dr. Charu Saharia Nath, along with many former and current professors, staff, and students.

 In his welcome speech, Principal Dr. Hazarika highlighted the progress made during his eight-month tenure and sought the continued support of all faculty and staff for the future development of the college. MLA Prithiraj Rabha, in his address, praised the glorious journey of Tezpur College.

 On this auspicious day, the college released its quarterly newsletter “The Heritage” and unveiled a book titled “Gender: Issues, Perspective and Empowerment” edited by Dr. Kisholoy Choudhury and Dr. Bhanupriya Daimari from the Political Science Department.

 Various academic awards were also presented during the event. In memory of the late librarian Amulya Hazarika, the “Best Reader” award was given by his sister, Ranu Hazarika, who is also the mother of the current principal. Similarly, the “Best Graduate” award from the Arts stream was presented in memory of the late principal Jogendra Nath Choudhury by his wife, retired Political Science professor Jewtikon Choudhury. In honor of Assamese Department founder Professor Bhairab Shaikia, his daughter Deepika Shaikia Bora presented an award to the top scorer in the Assamese Department.

 Certificates were also distributed to students who completed the newly introduced “Disaster Management” course under the college’s Skill Development program.

 The event was further enriched by heartfelt speeches from former professors and alumni, making the celebration even more memorable. The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Professor Dr. Debajit Dutta.
